National Honor Society

The PURPOSE of the National Honor Society is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service to others, promote leadership and to encourage the development of character in the nation’s secondary students.

MEMBERSHIP in the WHS chapter of NHS is a privilege, not a rite.

To Qualify for membership, candidates must be juniors or seniors who:
 Have an academic GPA of 3.4 or higher
 Have a good discipline and attendance records
 Can explain the importance of one service experience
 Can explain how they have utilized leadership skills
 Can describe their character as demonstrated in their classes and community
 Are willing to pay $20 annual dues when we return to school or mail a check.
 Are willing to participate in the NHS induction ceremony and two NHS service projects per year, in addition to the graduation requirement for service hours.

Benefits of Membership

NHS members in good standing wear the distinctive golden honor cord at graduation and receive an NHS seal on their diploma, an NHS symbol after their names in the graduation program and an NHS certificate at a formal Induction Ceremony.
