Principal's Message

Wolfpack Community,

As Principal of Woodland High School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for the 2018-2019 school year. We hope that you have enjoyed your summer creating new memories with loved ones. It is our mission and commitment to our community that every student feels welcomed, connected and part of the Pack. Additionally, we strive to challenge each student to maximize their own potential to achieve academic excellence and to be college and career ready by the end of their four years at Woodland High.

At Woodland High School, we have a deeply rooted belief that all students can learn and will benefit from the rigorous standards that we have established at Woodland High. We know that every student has their own pathway, and it is our job to provide opportunities for students to not only find their passion but to be successful.

The past year our community of students found continued success with an increase in graduation rates, participation in athletics and school spirit filled the halls to create a sea of orange.

Building community is a focal point and priority for our school.  We know that it takes a village for students to be successful, and through a commitment with families we want to partner to support their student through graduation.  I send out weekly phone messages on Sundays to highlighting all the great work our students and staff are doing. In addition, we have our school website, Facebook page, and Instagram account to see the daily activities of our students.

Our district wide instructional focus this year is ‘quality first teaching.’  The key characteristics include; highly focused lessons with sharp objectives, high levels of interaction for all students, and regular use of encouragement and authentic praise to engage and motivate pupils. We will achieve this goal by working within our professional learning communities to ensure we are constantly assessing, monitoring and instructing to meet the needs of all learners.

We will continue to work collaboratively with families and the school community to foster a school climate where everyone respects themselves, others, and our school environment. At WHS we are dedicated to being a place of mutual respect and it is an expectation that all members of the WHS community will follow the Three P’s – Positive, Productive, and Professional.

Our administrative team that will lead the school include Gary Embree, Adam McLearan and Gerald Salcido.  I look forward to their leadership and ensuring that all students are supported. I’m proud to start my fourth year as your student’s principal and I’ve been busy preparing for the first day of school. It is a true privilege to be part of the Woodland community.  Working alongside parents, faculty, staff, and students who deeply care for each other makes WHS home. A community that strives to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth.
